"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty
recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the
dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams
with open eyes, to make it possible". [T S Lawrence]

Day 1 - The boys have set off

Paul (L) and Hamish are stoked to be on the water at last.

Farewelling family, friends and well-wishers, Adventure Aotearoa pushed off full of beans from Timaru's Caroline Bay this morning. Under a beautiful blue sky we cruised south for 50km, enjoying a 2m northerly swell, dolphins cavorting alongside and a couple of seals playing off the rugged coastline of the lower South Island. We made camp at 5:30pm and settled down for dinner and jokes around the gas stove. Looking forward to paddling the last 20km south to the mouth of the Waitaki tomorrow.
